GT Couriers Support Local Racing Talent Ben Godfrey and JDR on Spanish Test Track

The 2019 Superstock 1000 preparations kicked off with a bang this January in Cartagena, Spain, with a debut test aboard the Jones Dorling Racing Suzuki GSXR1000R for good friend of GT Couriers, Ben Godfrey. Our Director Jez headed out with Ben and the JDR team for a 3 day test track trip abroad. Here’s a little breakdown of the trip from the man himself:

I had the pleasure to be invited to see how Ben and the Jones Dorling Racing Team performed in this first shake down of the 2019 season. The test itself was carried out over 3 days under perfect sunshine!

The first day, Ben was getting himself back into riding the big GSXR, trying to get as comfortable on the bike as possible along with knowing the workings of his new team. Straight away everything clicked, like they’d been working together for years. Day one on the track we saw very impressive lap times given, all involved big cheesy smiles and a well-earned beer at the end of a very successful day.

Day two started early with a track walk for myself, Ben and some members of the team to give us a greater insight into the characteristics of the Circuito de Cartagena. As the saying goes “every day is a school day”, and the team started the process of educating themselves on how to get the best out of the bike to suit Ben’s riding style. They started moving the bike’s set-up from one end its spectrum to the other and seeing the effects it had, completing many laps under the Spanish sun along the way. By the end of day two they were there with the set-up putting in better lap times than day one and were really looking forward to getting their heads down on the final day – another end of day beer earned.

Day three, breakfast first and a group of people acting like they were 10 years old on Christmas Day. With the data they’d collected over the previous two days, day three was always going to produce very fast lap times. The whole day Ben and the team improved, smashing Ben’s own personal best around this circuit and being consistent doing so. Very impressive and ended the 3 day test as fastest man and team on circuit, putting a marker firmly down to all the fellow competitors in the 2019 Superstock 1000 championship.

If first impressions do count for anything, the impression I got was that 2019 is going to be a very rewarding year for Long Eaton rider Ben Godfrey and the Jones Dorling Racing team. I’d like to thank Chris Jones and his team for making me feel welcome and Mr Ben Godfrey for just impressing the hell out of me.
