2025 marks the 5th anniversary of the tragic death of Ben Godfrey. Ben was a local lad and a talented British Superstock rider who unfortunately passed away after an accident on the track at Donington Park in 2020. He was passionate about his sport and had a truly kind, funny and infectious personality. He turned into a close friend and, through this very special relationship, GT Couriers were proudly able to sponsor him for four consecutive seasons to help him achieve his dreams in the sport he loved.
We could say what an extremely special person he was, or how he would give 100% in the sport he loved, or how professional he was when it came to promoting his sponsors, but those close to him already know this. Ben was a motorcycle racer through and through, and from meeting him for the very first time, looking into his eyes, you knew his desire to succeed at what he loved was unstoppable. His light shone so brightly, he would instantly bring a smile to anyone he came into contact with, always making them feel welcomed and part of his team.
Our journey together was cut far too short, but we’ll always hold dear the time we spent together and cherish our many conversations. He will be forever in our hearts here at GT – he was quite simply our Ben.
After Ben passed away, his family set up The Ben Godfrey Memorial Fund, which they use to raise funds for local grassroots sports, along with sponsoring up-and-coming talent in the Motorbike racing world. As part of this, they hold an annual fundraising event.
The 2025 Ben Godfrey Memorial Fundraiser will take place at 2pm on Saturday June 28th at The Wilsthorpe Tavern, Long Eaton. It’ll include an auction and raffle (which we’ve donated to ourselves), live music and a DJ set, as well as appearances from Jenson Racing #17, Long Eaton United Invaders U9’s and BBC Radio’s own Becky Measures.
